In the winter of 2008 the search for land in the mountains became a focus, specifically, land with a natural supply of water. Two years later, and a long list of properties seen for sale in the Appalachians of North Carolina, we arrived at the gate of what was to become Milima Ranch.
Previously, the property was owned by a family with a Bed and Breakfast/Llama trekking business and it was their foresight to place 272 acres into a conservation easement with The North American Land Trust (NALT).
By 2005 another group had purchased the land with the intention of creating a mountain preserve with 29 home sites and a spa. Phase 2 was to follow on the adjoining 192 acres. Three years later the development, along with countless others in WNC, folded and the land with 2 cabins sat vacant.
In July of 2010, camping on the floor of the large cabin during the due diligence period, we explored every inch of the 400 acres which was perhaps more than we had envisioned taking on! After much consideration, we decided to go ahead with the purchase of the entire property and closed in September.
