Located in Western North Carolina, Milima (mi-lee-muh) Ranch’s 400 acres of pristine conservation land are surrounded by the Smoky Mountains and Pisgah Forest. With a southern exposure, the land provides the ideal setting for the two beautifully appointed cabins, Moonshine and Milkyway, which are offered for short term rental. In addition to the first class accommodation, there is a 8-mile network of trails for hiking and riding. These trails traverse the land ascending from 3200 ft. to 4200 ft. offering a nature lover’s paradise with mountain streams, rare plants and the chance to see a diverse wildlife population. There is a very well built, low impact road system and underground power on the 272 acres running to a selection of home sites with acreage, which eventually will be made available to a few investors that are looking for a mountain getaway.
Along with providing an ultimate vacation getaway with Moonshine and Milkyway Cabins and opening up the network of hiking trails, blocks for burning and regeneration have been identified on the adjoining 126 acres which will present key ecotones as it borders the 272 acres conservation land. There are separate horse riding trails on the gently contoured terrain of the eastern cove. The removal of soft wood, non-indigenous trees and shrubs is an ongoing project. This year targeted areas were cleared and replaced with beneficial fruit and acorn-bearing trees, indigenous to the mountains and essential to the welfare of wildlife and mountain songbirds. Forest openings and regeneration projects benefit ruffed grouse, wild turkeys, deer, elk and songbirds, to name a few.
Although the location feels unassuming, far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, tourist congestion and traffic, the convenient access off I-40 allows for quick trips to the surrounding attractions, including Waynesville, Cataloochee Ski Area, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Nantahallah Gorge and Asheville, just to name a few. These areas offer activities for everybody including sight-seeing, shopping, skiing, golfing, fishing, white water rafting, canoeing, zip lining and hunting, all within 40 minutes of Milima Ranch.
Milima Ranch is a destination of 4 seasons. The winter offers some exceptional snow days with the landscape transforming into a dramatic canvas that reveals the backbone of the land which is hidden in the growing season. The spring, summer and fall months present an ever-changing canvas of the mountains and the wildflowers are a sight to be seen. A special treat starting in September is the ripening of the apple trees that are scattered throughout the 400 acres, followed shortly after by the fiery fall leaf season.
